Hello again,

This is our third post covering the short story market, and honestly there’s still so much to explore. The first two parts of this series covered genre and literary short story magazines, and this one will explore magazines that publish nonfiction - from narrative writing to journalism.

If you have any rights managers in your life, read this out loud and watch them wring their hands while they wait to tell you to skip the articles and go straight for the life rights. Yes - there are times when that is the most efficient route, but don’t forget that THE BLING RING, PITCH PERFECT, and even THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS all came from writers creating a narrative out of something going unnoticed. (And let’s be real, as much as we think we can do that ourselves, none of us have the time to create the narrative a good writer/journalist can.)

I’ll spare you the obvious New Yorker-Atlantic-Elle-GQ examples. Since you’re a periodical aficionado at this point, I know you’re already tracking your favorite journalists and familiarizing yourself with their teams. Instead, I want to highlight some magazines with hidden-gem writers who are presenting fresh new perspectives and ideas.

As always, I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Best,

TIP
