Practical Magic
Find a project with KPOP DEMON HUNTERS potential in these adventurous titles that spin magic out of familiar subcultures.
Hello again!
If you’ve been reading TIP lately, you know I’ve been talking about KPOP DEMON HUNTERS a LOT. I just think it has the perfect formula for creating an engaging, approachable (and produce-able) fantasy world, and that’s building a magic system from a well-known subculture.
This does two things at the same time - it draws in fans familiar with that particular space, and it also attracts fans new to the space who want to get in on the fun. If the project truly embraces the subculture it’s working with, the opportunities for marketing, cross promotion, and merchandising are truly endless.
Subculture based projects live across all genres, but (unsurprisingly) most have at least one foot in sci-fi and fantasy. Below are ten titles recently announced for publishing that use this format. Here are the ones I’m most excited about:
Magic based on the arts
Magical worlds and systems with a distinct blue-collar twist
Corporate magic à la SUCCESSION
Just a heads up - everyone in publishing is on vacation right now, so some of the titles aren’t confirmed avail from the reps (although I’m 90% sure they’re avail based on my other resources). Please check back in the future for additional updates, and feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any questions!
As always, I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
Best,
TIP
