Weekend Read #001 - The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood
Some IP that maybe isn’t first pick for screen at the moment, but WILL enrich your media consumption
Hi again!
It’s so easy to get stuck in a rut of only reading and watching things related to work - sometimes it’s nice to relax and experience a piece of media like you’re supposed to. Here, I want to highlight a few projects that might not be the most adaptable for film and TV, but will help you explore emerging genres and have a few talking points for artists you’re trying to court in these spaces. And to have fun! Remember fun??
With that being said let’s begin -
THE COSMIC WHEEL SISTERHOOD is a “narrative adventure game”, much closer to a visual novel than a traditional video game. It was developed by Deconstructeam and published by Devolver Digital in 2023, and is available on PC and Switch.
In it you play as Fortuna, an exiled witch desperate to escape your unjust 1000-year sentence of isolation. To do so, you opt into a taboo deal with a behemoth, who teaches you how to craft your own tarot deck. Soon, your fortune telling becomes a sought after service to many powerful figures.
The game has a few acts, and each one tweaks the gameplay slightly. Some are all visual novel (with multiple, branching paths that beg for repeat plays), and others are almost an RPG/resource management game (and I highly addicting one, I might add). And of course, in every act you get to design your own mysterious tarot cards which push and pull the decisions available to you throughout the story.
THE COSMIC WHEEL SISTERHOOD is truly impossible to put down - it’s full of morally gray characters, gossip, and incredible lore that brings every kind of witch from across pop culture into a kind of witch-Spiderverse. You can play it in a few hours, so it’s the perfect little weekend treat.
