A Man, a Plan, a Canal, Available IP That Explores Modern Masculinity.
New and upcoming titles with something unique to add to the conversation
Hello again!
Anyone who knows me in person will think this article is hilarious. A gay woman with not a lot of men in her family definitely isn’t any kind of authority over what books authentically portray masculinity, but maybe my detachment will be a useful new approach. Maybe.
I’ve met a lot of producers around Hollywood who are specifically interested in male-forward projects, and I think that’s a good thing. We as an industry have made so much progress in the past 10 years promoting stories written by women with a female POV, and we need to keep the feminist momentum going. I think one of the ways to do that is through uplifting stories by men about what modern manhood can be, and how we can all build a better world together. (And yes there are plenty of caveats to keep in mind here. Drop them in the comments below - it’ll boost my engagement.)
Below is a list of books recently announced for publishing that explore being a man in today’s world. They include such cool hip topics as:
The complex world of sports and sports betting
Dad-forward content about unique businesses around the world how they operate
The heavy, unreal and sometimes absurd burdens one inherits if they are not white in America
Beating up vampires because I don’t think we should give that up just yet
If you think I’m stereotyping men or missing an important subject, add a comment. Your culture is valid and I’m ready to listen.
(Also the statuses of two of these titles are still pending - I’ll update the post as I learn more!)
Best,
TIP
